Italy comes to Charleston for Louie’s Kids

Italian Chef and BBC Italian cooking show host, Carmelita Caruana of cookitaly.com will host an 8-day series of fundraisers for Louie’s Kids on the Culture, Lifestyle and Magic of food from Italy!

Carmelita hosts cooking vacations across Italy, teaching the magic of fresh ingredients, simple foods well prepared and the amazing variety of Italian cuisine...where “Slow Food” has been a way of life for centuries. Participants can host a dinner party or cooking class right in their own home with friends and fellow foodies!

No room? Just want to come have fun and learn about Italian fare?

The chefs of Maverick Southern Kitchens (Frank Lee of Slightly North of Broad; Anthony Gray of High Cotton; Tim Armstrong of the Old Village Post House; Danielle Wecksler of Charleston Cooks!) will host a “Welcome to the Lowcountry” reception for Carmelita Caruana on Wednesday August 8th from 5pm – 8pm at High Cotton, Maverick Bar & Grill. This will kick off her 8-day visit to the Lowcountry for a series of fundraisers for Louie’s Kids. Mingle with guest of honor Carmelita and learn more about her Cook Italy culinary vacations, her commitment to the slow food movement, and her association with Louie’s Kids while nibbling on hors d’oeuvres and sipping wine. The event is open to the public and advance reservations are required. There is no charge for the reception; donations for Louie’s Kids will be accepted onsite. Or, make a reservation at FIG Restaurant; Wednesday August 15 at 11:30 for a Slow Food inspired local farm lunch hosted by Chef Mike Lata and Carmelita Carauna. $65.00 minimum donation per person.
